Tesla CEO Elon Musk has apologised for engaging in a war of words with US President Donald Trump last week, saying some of his comments “went too far”.
“I regret some of my posts about President Donald Trump last week. They went too far,” he said on X.

Last week, Trump and Musk took to Truth Social and X, respectively, to engage in a war of words that turned into a full-blown bashing of each other. The president has floated the idea of ending government subsidies and contracts for the companies run by Elon Musk as a way of saving money.
The trouble between the two started brewing days ago, when Musk denounced Trump’s sweeping tax-cut and spending bill. The president initially held his tongue while Musk campaigned to torpedo the bill, saying it would add too much to the nation’s $36.2 trillion in debt.
Musk had started deleting some of his explosive claims about Trump from last weekend. Two days after the duo bickered, which included Musk saying that the president is linked to Jeffrey Epstein, the former Doge chief deleted his tweet, essentially taking back his comment.
The showdown tanked Tesla stocks last week, losing some $100 billion of the company’s market value.
Musk had also suggested that Trump should be impeached and replaced by US Vice President JD Vance. When a right-wing commentator, Ian Miles Cheong, said on X, “President vs Elon. Who wins? My money’s on Elon. Trump should be impeached and JD Vance should replace him,” Musk agreed and said, “Yes.”
The Tesla CEO has also put forth the idea of creating his own political party following his formal exit from the White House.
He began an online poll on X, asking, “Is it time to create a new political party in America that actually represents the 80% in the middle?”
This is a breaking story. Refresh for updates.
