Tesla CEO and X owner Elon Musk, who played a pivotal role in the thumping win of Donald Trump in the 2024 US Presidential election, has now predicted the downfall of Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau in the upcoming general polls in Canada.
The Canadian federal election is expected to take place on or before October 20 next year.
‘Trudeau will be gone’
On Thursday, a user on his social media platform - X - told Musk, “we need your help in Canada getting rid of Trudeau.”
Responding to the post, Musk said, “He will be gone in the upcoming election.”
They were reacting to a post that said Germany’s “socialist government” had collapsed and “there are now talks about a snap election.”
Trouble time for Trudeau
Trudeau, who has been leading the Liberal Party since 2013, is running a minority government in Canada, with his party currently holding 153 of the 338 seats in Parliament.
In the upcoming election, the Canadian PM will primarily face a three-way contest from the Conservative Party (led by Pierre Poilievre) and the New Democratic Party (led by Jagmeet Singh).
The election will be a significant test for Trudeau, who has been leading the Liberal Party since 2013. Musk’s comment likely stems from Trudeau’s current minority government status, which makes him more vulnerable to losing power.
Impact Shorts
More ShortsPressure on Trudeau continues to mount, especially with his opponents projected to win the upcoming election.
Trudeau, who is trailing the Conservatives in polls, has been facing increasing pressure from within his party.
Last month, at least 24 lawmakers had set a deadline for Trudeau to resign by October 28 this year. They cited dissatisfaction with his leadership and the party’s poor polling result.
However, despite the internal turmoil, Trudeau has vowed to stay the course.
Aiming for a fourth term, Trudeau confirmed his intent to lead the Liberals in the next election. If he wins, he would be the first Canadian prime minister in over 100 years to secure a fourth consecutive term.
The Trudeau-led administration has also been blamed for the souring diplomatic ties with India. New Delhi has repeatedly expressed deep concern about extremism and the culture of violence and anti-India activities in Canada and has also asked authorities in Ottawa to take action against these activities.
The ties between India and Canada nosedived after Trudeau made allegations without providing evidence regarding the killing of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar.
Trudeau has also come under fire from Peoples Party of Canada Chief Maxime Bernier who took a swipe at him for his continued support of unchecked immigration.
