At least five people were killed, including a New York City police officer and the suspected gunman, in a shooting incident Monday evening inside a Midtown Manhattan office building that houses major financial firms and the NFL, according to officials.
“Four people, including a New York Police Department officer, were killed in today’s shooting in Midtown Manhattan,” a law enforcement source told broadcaster CNN, empgasising that the suspected gunman died from what is believed to be a “self-inflicted injury.”
Earlier, news agency AP reported, citing multiple law enforcement sources, that the gunman behind the attack was believed to be dead. Later, NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch said on X that the scene is “contained” and the “lone shooter has been neutralized.”
The New York Fire Department said emergency crews were dispatched to the Park Avenue building around 6:30 pm following a report of a shooting. Police have not provided additional details so far.

According to a source, a man carrying a long rifle was seen entering the building prior to the shooting.

More ShortsOne civilian is in critical condition, while another civilian and an NYPD officer—who was shot in the back—are expected to survive, a law enforcement official told CNN. The NYPD bomb squad is currently at the scene.
The injured officer is assigned to a Bronx precinct and was stationed near the building when the incident occurred, the official added.
Local television footage showed people evacuating the building with their hands raised. The high-profile offices in the building include Blackstone, Deutsche Bank, JPMorgan, and the Consulate General of Ireland.
FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino said on social media that agents were assisting at what he described as an “active crime scene.”
Mayor Eric Adams also posted online, stating that an “active shooter investigation” was underway and urged people in the area to remain indoors and take safety precautions.
The city’s emergency alert system warned of traffic delays, road closures, and disruptions to public transportation in the surrounding area.
