A suspected suicide bombing on Tuesday killed at least six people and injured over a dozen near a court in Pakistan’s Islamabad, according to the police.
The Express Tribune reported the police as saying that the blast occurred near the main gate of the G‑11 Islamabad Courthouse.
The police said the attacker attempted to enter the courthouse but detonated explosives after failing to do so near a police vehicle.
Separately, Geo News reported sources in the police as saying that 21 people were injured in the blast.
The blast has occurred at a time when tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan’s Taliban are high. Lately, armed groups opposed to Pakistan —ranging from the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) to Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA)— have ramped up attacks that have often targeted security personnel and infrastructure.
As many as 916 people have been killed in such attacks in Pakistan so far this year, according to the South Asia Terrorism Portal (SATP).
This represents a 46 per cent rise in overall violence in the third quarter of 2025, according to the Islamabad-based Centre for Research and Security Studies (CRSS).
The CRSS report said that 96 pere cent of these attacks have been concentrated in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan.
The northwestern province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa that borders Afghanistan has been worst hit with nearly 71 per cent (638) of the total violence-linked fatalities, and over 67 per cent (221) of the incidents of violence, the report cited by IANS said.
