After fresh Pakistani attacks in Afghanistan, Taliban claim killing Pak soldiers & capturing posts

In response to latest Pakistani attacks inside Afghanistan, the Taliban on Wednesday said they killed several Pakistani soldiers and captured their posts and equipment, including tanks.

In a statement on X, Taliban Spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid said Pakistan launched attacks on Afghanistan in the Spin Boldak district of Kandahar province this morning using light and heavy weapons. He said that more than 12 civilians were killed and over 100 were injured in the Pakistani attack.

“Following this, Afghan forces were compelled to retaliate. In the counterattack, several Pakistani aggressor soldiers were killed, their posts and centers were captured, weapons and tanks fell into the hands of Afghan forces, and most of their military installations were destroyed,” said Mujahid.

In one of the videos that Mujahid shared, a tank could be seen being driven on the road — purportedly the Pakistani tank that he said the Taliban captured.

Last week, the Taliban and Pakistan had their worst clashes after the Taliban said that explosions in Kabul on Thursday were a result of Pakistani airstrikes.

In response to Pakistani airstrikes, the Taliban launched attacks on Pakistani forces across the Durand Line, the line dividing Afghanistan and Pakistan that the Taliban have long rejected as the two countries’ border. In the border clashes, Mujahid said 58 Pakistani soldiers were killed, 30 were wounded, and 20 Pakistani security outposts were destroyed.

In the latest round of Taliban-Pakistan clashes, at least six Pakistani soldiers have been killed, according to CNN-News 18.

Top intelligence sources said that at least six Pakistani soldiers were killed in fierce clashes near Pakistan’s Orakzai district’s Ghiljo area as Taliban units stormed Pakistan’s Maahmoodzai post.

Moreover, sources said that heavy artillery firing has damaged Pakistan’s forward posts and field communication system along the border at Chaman district in Pakistan’s Balochistan and Spin Boldak in Afghanistan’s Kandahar.

“Wireless and field communication networks have been hit, hampering coordination among security units," intelligence sources said.

The Tehrik-e-Taliban (TTP), a group distinct from the Afghan Taliban but aligned with it, has also continued to batter Pakistan.

Sources told CNN-News 18 that the TTP has intensified ambush-style raids and improvised explosive devices (IED) strikes in Pakistan’s northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa while Afghan Taliban units are now targeting Pakistani posts with precision weaponry.

On its part, Pakistan said that its forces repulsed an attack by Afghan Taliban last night and killed 15-20 attackers, according to Dawn newspaper.

The Pakistani military said in a statement that the Afghan Taliban “resorted to cowardly attack[s] at four locations in [the] Spin Boldak area” in the early hours of Wednesday and that “the attack was effectively repulsed by Pakistani forces”, as per the newspaper.

As for the situation in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the Pakistani military said it repulsed Taliban’s attack and dealt heavy losses to the Taliban.

“Eight posts, including six tanks, were destroyed in the effective yet proportionate response of Pakistani troops. Twenty-five to thirty Afghan Taliban and Fitna-al-Khwarij fighters were suspected to have been killed,” the statement said, referring to the TTP as Fitna-al-Khwarij, the name Pakistan formally uses for the group.
