Operation Sindoor was in line with UNSC call to 'bring Pahalgam attackers to justice': India

Operation Sindoor was carried out in accordance with a recent UN Security Council statement, which emphasised the need to bring those responsible for the brutal Pahalgam massacre, and their supporters, to justice , the Indian government said in a message to the international community. The operation aimed to deter further attacks planned by Pakistan-based terrorist groups.

Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri described the military action as non-escalatory, responsible, and proportionate. He stated that there was clear evidence linking Pakistan to the Pahalgam attack, including communication networks used by the terrorists in and connected to Pakistan.

Misri further stated that The Resistance Front (TRF), which claimed responsibility for the attack, is a front for the UN-banned Pakistani terror group Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT).

Indian intelligence, he said, has identified the planners and supporters behind the attack.

“India exercised its right to respond and prevent further cross-border terrorism,” Misri told reporters while addressing the press on India’s most successful counter-terrorism operation. He added that the strikes targeted and dismantled terror infrastructure and neutralised terrorists likely to be pushed into India. Misri confirmed that the operation struck key bases of LeT and Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM).

Under Operation Sindoor , India conducted missile strikes on nine terror targets in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir, with Indian forces specifically aiming to target top Jaish-e-Mohammed and Lashkar-e-Taiba leaders for their role in orchestrating terror attacks in India. According to reports, around 80 terrorists were killed in the operation.

UNSC’s call to bring perpetrators to justice

Earlier, the UN Security Council strongly condemned the terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, where 26 people, mostly tourists, were killed by Pakistani and local terrorists.

In a statement on Friday, the 15-member Council said those responsible for planning, carrying out, and supporting this “reprehensible act of terrorism” must be held accountable and brought to justice.

The Council also said that all forms of terrorism pose a serious threat to international peace and security.

India carried out missile strikes on nine terror targets in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir, aiming to eliminate top Jaish-e-Mohammed and Lashkar-e-Taiba leaders involved in planning attacks on Indian soil. This is being described as the most successful operation against Pakistan-sponsored terrorism conducted on Pakistani territory.

India’s precise strike

In the early hours of Wednesday, Indian forces launched precision strikes on terrorist infrastructure across the border. According to the Ministry of Defence, the operation was “focused, measured, and non-escalatory,” with no Pakistani military sites targeted. The strikes were carried out in response to the brutal Pahalgam terror attack, which claimed the lives of 25 Indian citizens and one Nepali national.

Following the strikes, Pakistan violated the ceasefire agreement by firing artillery in the Bhimber Gali area of Jammu and Kashmir. The Indian Army responded in a “calibrated manner,” officials confirmed.
