Luxembourg PM Xavier Bettel all set to wed his gay partner next week

Taking advantage of Luxembourg’s legalisation of same-sex marriage a few months back, the dashing Prime Mininster Xavier Bettel is all set to wed his partner Gauthier Destanay next week, reports The Times of India

Bettel, who assumed office in 2013 at the age of 40 has been in a civil union with Destanay, an architect since 2010.

“He asked me and I said ‘yes,’” Bettel was quoted telling the Los Angeles Times  last August.

According to sources, Bettel wants the wedding to be private and has turned down celebrity magazines wanting to cover the event.

It should be noted that Luxembourg is the only country to have an openly gay Prime Minster and a Deputy Prime Minister, Etienne Schneider.

In an earlier instance, Johanna Sigurdardottir, who was the Prime Minister of Iceland from 2009 to 2013 became one of the first same-sex wedded couples when she married her partner in 2010.
