US President Donald Trump says that a ceasefire between Israel and Iran is “now in effect”, although Israel has not publicly commented on the development and Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi rejected the claims earlier today.
Following Abbas’s dismissal of Trump’s claim, however, the Iranian state media reported that the country has agreed to a ceasefire with Israel. “The Sepah (Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps) successful missile operations in response to US aggression and the exemplary steadfastness and unity of our dear people in defending our land, has imposed ceasefire on the enemy,” the state-run Iran National News Network said in a broadcast.
“THE CEASEFIRE IS NOW IN EFFECT. PLEASE DO NOT VIOLATE IT!” Trump said on Truth Social a few hours ago.
As Trump, who joined the conflict on Sunday with the US targeting key nuclear facilities in Iran, makes the Israel-Iran conflict ceasefire official, here’s a rundown of what happened at the White House:

‘Get me Bibi’
Trump said that he brokered the ceasefire agreement to put an end to over a week long of hostilities between the two countries.
A senior White House official told Reuters that while the president held conversations with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, his team, which included JD Vance, held talks with Tehran.
The official, providing details of the ceasefire on condition of anonymity, said Israel agreed to it so long as Iran does not launch fresh attacks. Iran signalled that no further attacks would take place, the official said.
Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio and US special envoy Steve Witkoff were involved in the direct and indirect communications with Iran, the official said.
The official said Trump called for talks with Israel and Iran soon after the U.S. strikes.

According to Fox News, a diplomat said, “President Trump spoke with Qatar’s Emir and informed him the U.S. got Israel to agree to a ceasefire with Iran. The President asked Qatar to help persuade Iran to do the same, following that Vice President Vance coordinated with Qatar’s Prime Minister on the details.”
‘Going to go forever’
Meanwhile, in an interview with NBC News, Trump said that he expects that the ceasefire brokered by him will end all military hostilities between Iran and Israel.
“I think the ceasefire is unlimited. It’s going to go forever," he said.
When asked if the conflict between the two countries is completely over or not, the president said, “Yes. I don’t believe they will ever be shooting at each other again.”
