Iranian state media have said that the country has agreed to a ceasefire with Israel, hours after US President Donald Trump said an agreement to halt hostilities had been reached.
The state media reports follow Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi saying that “no immediate” ceasefire has been agreed upon by the country.
“The Sepah (Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps) successful missile operations in response to US aggression and the exemplary steadfastness and unity of our dear people in defending our land, has imposed ceasefire on the enemy,” the state-run Iran National News Network said in a broadcast.
Late at night on Tuesday, US President Donald Trump announced on Truth Social that a ceasefire deal had been agreed and that it will be a phased 24-hour process beginning at around 0400 GMT on Tuesday, with Iran unilaterally halting all operations. Israel would follow suit 12 hours later.

“It has been fully agreed by and between Israel and Iran that there will be a Complete and Total CEASEFIRE,” Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform.
“Upon the 24th hour, an official end to the 12-day war will be saluted by the world,” he said, adding that both sides had agreed to remain “peaceful and respectful” during each phase of the process.
Although there is no confirmation from Israel yet, Araghchi said, “As Iran has repeatedly made clear: Israel launched war on Iran, not the other way around. As of now, there is NO ‘agreement’ on any ceasefire or cessation of military operations.”
