'Iran wants to kill Trump': After US prez 'vetoed' Israel's Khamenei plan, Netanyahu says Tehran tried to assassinate Potus

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said in an interview with Fox News on Sunday that Iran has been attempting to assassinate US President Donald Trump, as Tehran sees him as a threat to its nuclear programme.

Accusing Iran, Netanyahu said, “Through proxies, yes, through their intel, yes, they[Iran] want to kill him[Trump].”

He added that those who “chant ‘death to America’, tried to assassinate President Trump twice, killed 241 of your Marines in Beirut, and killed and injured thousands of American soldiers in Afghanistan” should never be allowed to possess nuclear weapons.

Trump reportedly faced two assassination attempts last year while campaigning for the presidential elections. At a rally in Pennsylvania, a bullet was fired at him, grazing his ear.

“He’s a decisive leader. He never took the path that others did—trying to bargain with them in a weak manner, giving them essentially a pathway to enrich uranium, which means a pathway to the bomb, all while padding it with billions and billions of dollars," Netanyahu told Fox News.

Netanyahu stressed that Iran views Trump as their “enemy number one” and is determined to eliminate him.

Former US President Donald Trump recently rejected an Israeli proposal to assassinate Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, two American officials told Reuters.

“Have the Iranians killed an American yet? No. Until they do, we’re not even talking about going after the political leadership,” one senior official said.

Israel and Iran continued to launch missile attacks on each other from Sunday night into early Monday, defying global calls for a ceasefire as the conflict entered its third day.
