The student wing of Osman Hadi has called for the suspension of work permits for Indian nationals in Bangladesh, warning the Yunus-led interim government of strict action if there is no progress in the investigation into Hadi’s killing.

The demand comes after Bangladesh police reported that the alleged killers of Hadi, a vocal critic of India, had fled to India.

On Sunday, Senior Dhaka Metropolitan Police officer SN Nazrul Islam said that suspects Faisal Karim Masud and Alamgir Sheikh crossed the Haluaghat border into India shortly after the December 12 attack. They were reportedly received by two Indian citizens at the border, who escorted them into Meghalaya and handed them over to accomplices, reported News 18.

Following the police statement, Inqilab Moncho, Hadi’s student platform, issued a four-point ultimatum, including a 24-day deadline for the government to complete trial proceedings against those responsible.

“The trial of the entire killing squad, including the killer, the mastermind, the accomplices, those who aided their escape, and those who sheltered them, must be completed within the next 24 days,” the group said in a Facebook statement.

The organisation also warned that if the suspects were not returned within 24 hours, or if no official statement regarding their stay in India was issued, the work permits of Indian nationals in Bangladesh should be revoked.

The organisation also demanded that a case be filed against India at the International Court of Justice if the fugitives were not repatriated, and called for those within the Civil Military Intelligence implicated in Hadi’s killing to be identified and brought to justice.

Hadi, who was shot by masked assailants in Dhaka on December 13 and later died in Singapore, had been a prominent figure in last year’s mass uprising.

His death has sparked daily protests across the country, with demonstrators blocking intersections, torching buildings, and targeting media outlets and cultural institutions perceived as pro-India.

Since Friday, Inqilab Moncho has maintained a blockade at Dhaka’s Shahbagh intersection, enforced daily from 2 pm. Women and children have joined the sit-ins, with organisers arranging dedicated spaces for their participation. Similar demonstrations have also been reported in Sylhet and other divisional cities.
