At least 10 people were killed after two men opened fire near Sydney’s Bondi Beach on Sunday, triggering an emergency response and public safety warnings, police said. In a statement on X, police confirmed that one of the dead was a man believed to be one of the shooters, while the second alleged gunman is in critical condition. Authorities said 11 others were injured in the attack, including two police officers, as the situation continued to unfold.
People in Bondi reported hearing up to 50 gunshots, with individuals seen on the ground in the vicinity of Campbell Parade. A man believed to be one of the shooters was shot by police.
A video surfaced on X that appeared to show people fleeing across Bondi Beach as the sound of multiple gunshots and police sirens rang out.

Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese responded to the incident and said, “shocking and distressing”.
“Police and emergency responders are on the ground working to save lives. My thoughts are with every person affected,” Albanese said in a statement shared by his office.

Police issue shelter warning
Police urged members of the public to avoid the area and advised anyone already at the scene to take shelter. Australian police confirmed the situation was ongoing as they responded to what they described as a developing incident.
“Police are responding to a developing incident at Bondi Beach and are urging the public to AVOID the area. Anyone at the scene should take shelter,” New South Wales police said in a statement on social media.
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer took to X to express his condolences.
He wrote, “Deeply distressing news from Australia. The United Kingdom sends our thoughts and condolences to everyone affected by the appalling attack in Bondi beach. I’m being kept updated on the developing situation.”
Israeli President Isaac Herzog condemned the shooting in Sydney, describing it as a “cruel attack on Jews” and urging Australian authorities to intensify efforts to combat antisemitism.
“At these very moments, our sisters and brothers in Sydney, Australia, have been attacked by vile terrorists in a very cruel attack on Jews,” said Herzog in a speech at an event in Jerusalem, where he called on Australia to “fight against the enormous wave of antisemitism which is plaguing Australian society”.
