WATCH: Uttar Pradesh is India's top gun when it comes to possession of illegal firearms
Lock, stock and firearm seizures. Uttar Pradesh is India's top gun when it comes to possession of ammunition
When it comes to possession of illegal firearms, Uttar Pradesh leads the infamous pack in India. Nearly five out of 10 firearms seized in the country come from Uttar Pradesh. Possession of ammunition without a valid licence is an offence under the Arms Act. Add Madhya Pradesh to the mix, and you have over 60 percent of all firearm seizures.
This is in stark contrast to the trends in South India, where only 1,000 guns were seized between 2014 and 2015. Wondering how that adds to the country's total in those years? Consider the fact that the Indian total was 50,000.
