Facebook hires Anand Chandrasekaran for its Messenger app

It was earlier in February , that we had a quick call with Anand Chandrashekaran, the man who is said to be instrumental in creating a strong app foundation for Snapdeal with new changes that were to help set the road for 2016. Chandrasekaran had told us a lot of heart has gone into the design, and how they even got an artist hand draw each icon to create distinct look for each category. The man in news again, and this time for joining Facebook.

Facebook has roped him to give its Messenger a push in India. A WSJ report suggests that Chandrashekaran will help draw strategies for Facebook Messenger app. Chandrashekaran, who has worked in the Silicon Valley, quit Snapdeal in May. Now, he is likely to join Facebook at its Menlo Park office in the US. However, there is still no official word on whether he will work in India or US.

Chandrasekaran, 38, has co-founded Aeroprise, which is a mobile app software company later acquired by BMC Software Inc. in 2011. He has had previous stints with Bharti Airtel and Yahoo, but is widely known for his association with Snapdeal. He is known for integrating Freecharge into Snapdeal.

Facebook Messenger currently has over  a billion active users. The app now joins the likes of WhatsApp. Interestingly and needless to say, Facebook owns both. WhatsApp had hit the one billion mark in February this year. However, it is known that Zuckerberg himself is keen to push Messenger as more than just a messaging platform. Especially, with the big plans of  bots soon expected to take centre-stage, and that’s why it makes perfect sense that he gets the right team in place to ensure no stone is left unturned.
