YouTube is getting a design refresh. The video streaming platform has updated its website that now offers a cleaner look. The change in design is more aligned to its mobile app and also includes a special dark theme that makes it suitable for use during night time.

Product manager Brian Marquardt said in a blog post dated 2 May, “Starting today, we’re opening up a preview of the new design to a small group of people from all around the world so we can get feedback. While we hope you’ll love what we’ve been working on, we’re also really excited to involve the YouTube community so we can make the site even better before sharing it more broadly.”

Apart from the dark theme option, the whole website is now cleaner and takes some cue from Google’s ‘Material Design’ approach. Everything also looks more spaced out as well. One of the biggest changes however is so easy to see. YouTube now uses a new scripting technology called Polymer that is said to simplify web development. This will help YouTube bring changes to its website easily in the future.

While there is no confirmation when will the official rollout of the new update begin, users can try out the redesigned website. Just visit the link here and sign up for the trial.
