Alongside the launch of its Redmi 4A smartphone, Xiaomi announced the arrival of IRCTC integration into its messaging app.
Called Smart IRCTC SMS, the feature basically transforms the boring old IRCTC confirmation message to something a little more visually pleasing. If you’ve used Google Now to keep track of your flight tickets, the new IRCTC message UI should be very familiar.
To be clear, Xiaomi isn’t adding any significant additional functionality to the messaging app, it’s only changing the formatting of the message and adding a button to check PNR status.
The feature will be included in an upcoming update to MIUI, which is the flavour of Android that runs on Xiaomi’s smartphones. The feature isn’t available yet.
In other news, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 4A was also launched at the event. At the rock-bottom price of Rs 5,999, the Note 4A will be available on 23 March at 12 PM on Amazon.in and Mi.com.
The device is powered by a Snapdragon 425 chipset featuring a quad-core, 1.4GHz CPU and an Adreno 308 GPU. You also get 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage. Support for microSD cards up to 128GB in size is included.
For cameras, you get a 13MP f/2.2 rear camera and a 5MP unit for the front. The phone includes a 3,120 mAh battery and supports dual-SIM, 4G and VoLTE.
The device will be available in Dark Grey, Gold and Rose Gold. The latter will be a Mi.com exclusive and will be available only from 6 April.
