WhatsApp to stop working on Nokia S40, S60 and older BlackBerry devices from 30 June, 2017

WhatsApp will be stopping support for BlackBerry OS, BlackBerry 10, Nokia S40 and Nokia S60 phones from 30 June, 2017. In a blog post in March 2016, WhatsApp had announced that it **would be ending support** for a number of outdated platforms by the end of 2016. At the start of 2017, support for WhatsApp had been pulled from Android devices running an OS version older than 2.3.3, Windows Phone 7, the iPhone 3GS and devices with older iOS versions than iOS 6.

WhatsApp had indicated the reason for pulling the service was because “these platforms don’t offer the kind of capabilities we need to expand our app’s features in the future.” BlackBerry made its disappointment clear that both WhatsApp and Facebook would be **withdrawing support from its platform**. WhatsApp delayed stopping support to some BlackBerry and Nokia devices, but the FAQ on the WhatsApp web site indicates that support will be ending on 30 June, 2017.

Support for WhatsApp will be ending on mostly Nokia and BlackBerry devices. However, some devices from Sony and Samsung that use the Symbian Series 60 operating system will also be affected. WhatsApp recommends users of these devices to switch to a newer platform. While it is not possible to backup chat between platforms, users can email themselves their entire chat history.
