Multimedia messaging platform WhatsApp has rolled out a new update for its iOS users to add support for Apple’s CarPlay technology.

This makes WhatsApp one of the first major third-party apps to support CarPlay integration. This is a step up from the previous method where users had to use the Siri and WhatsApp integration to check new WhatsApp messages.

According to a report by MacRumors, iCulture spotted the new update which allows users to receive push notifications of the new WhatsApp messages with the help of this new integration while driving. According to the report, WhatsApp users who need this new feature for their CarPlay setup need to install the latest 2.18.2 version of WhatsApp on their iPhone.

This means that as soon as you connect CarPlay to your iPhone, a WhatsApp icon will appear on the CarPlay dashboard. With the help of this Siri will notify the “in-vehicle users” as soon as they receive a new message and offers to dictate the messages. They can also use Siri to specify the contact they want to send the message to. After this, you can dictate the message for Siri to listen to. Siri repeats the message that it heard while giving the option to send the message or edit it.

This pits WhatsApp directly against iMessage and the only difference between these two ways is the fact that iMessage allows users to scroll through the list of conversations while WhatsApp does not.
