Watch: Google on why the Nexus tab is awesome

Tech circles are buzzing with the introduction of the Nexus 7 - marking Google’s formal entrance into the ever expanding tablet market. Touted as the world’s only 7-inch tablet to run with a quad core processor, (For the uninitiated that means it’s fast - very fast) Google has just released this short introductory video explaining the features of the tab.

Featuring Hugo Barra, Director, Android’s Product Management, Tim Quirk, Head of Global content programming, Android, and Matias Duarte, User Experience Director, Android, the video serves as a quick run through of the tab and exactly why Google believes it to be a revolutionary new project.

Starting with a quick introduction of Android 4.1 aka Jelly Bean, the video talks about how the Nexus 7 was built to fully optimize the advanced features of the new OS. They also talk about how particular attention was paid to enhancing user touch experience, the thought process behind determining its size, and how they “declared a war on lagginess”

Key technical specifications of the tablet include 7-inch screen, IPS (in-plane switching) screen, with a resolution of 1,280x800 pixels. The tablet is also the first 7-incher to house a 1.3GHz Nvidia Tegra 3 quad-core CPU, which includes a 12-core GPU. It also has a Micro-USB port, 1GB of RAM, a 1.2-megapixel front camera (no back camera included).

According to Google’s blogpost , it also has a load of free content with it, including the movie Transformers: Dark of the Moon, the book The Bourne Dominion, magazines like Cond Nast Traveler and Popular Science, and songs from bands like Coldplay and the Rolling Stones.

_There’s also included $25 credit to purchase movies, books, etc from Google Play, for a limited time. Nexus 7 is available for preorder from Google Play in the US, UK, Canada and Australia, and starts at $199 in the US. It will start shipping mid-July.
