The Minister of State (I/C) for Culture & Tourism Dr. Mahesh Sharma unveiled a new feature for the Swachh Bharat App at the National Museum in New Delhi on 23 May. The main aim of the application is to get the citizens of the country involved in the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, or the Clean India Movement. The concept of a physical web has been implemented in the application. Visitors to landmarks, such as museums or monuments, will get a message to report on the garbage in the location.
Users can upload photos of the garbage directly to the app, as well as link to YouTube videos they have shot. Users are requested not to upload any information on the application that does not relate to the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. The application will be rolled out to 116 monuments under the Archaeological Survey of India, according to a report in the New Indian Express . The monuments will have Bluetooth enabled devices that will transmit information related to the cleanliness drive.
The application will also prompt users to take photographs of garbage, write comments on it and submit it to the authorities. The application has not been opened to all as the Culture Ministry does not want to receive inputs for areas that are not under its control. The Swachh Bharat App is only available on the Android store as of now.
