It seems that Bengaluru is getting a new ‘smart parking’ system that includes an app for easing your parking woes.

There’s no reason to get excited just yet though. The first phase of the operation will only roll out later this year, but only if Bengaluru is approved for the Smart Cities Mission project, reports GadgetNow .

The plan has been proposed as part of Bengaluru’s proposal to the mission and the plan is to convert roads into ‘smart roads’. Drivers will apparently see a real-time update of the parking situation in the city and will be able to navigate to an empty space.

A report in The Times of India adds that the entire system is cashless and smart cards will be available for this purpose. The app will apparently help out civic bodies as well, as they’ll be able to keep track of parked vehicles.

Reportedly, CCTVs will be installed at all parking lots and the data will be accessible via a central server which municipal officials will be able to access.

An urban planner that TOI spoke to claims that current methods of tracking and dealing with illegally parked vehicles are inadequate and that these smart parking features are the “need of the hour”.
