Qualcomm Snapdragon 830 may be equipped with 8GB of RAM: Report

It is almost the end of 2015 and we have yet to see or hear about an official announcement from a smartphone brand about utilising a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 chipset. In fact, chipmaker Qualcomm only recently began to release details about its upcoming premium chipset to the masses. So, it really does not make sense talking about Qualcomm’s next move, the Snapdragon 830, does it?

Well, for those of you who are eager to know about the Snapdragon 830, a few details have emerged from China and while they do sound impressive, we would suggest that you take such details with a pinch of salt.

The rumours talk about the name of the processor which is expected to be called the MSM 8998, and while there is no information provided whether Qualcomm has given up on the multi-core race, the same source predicts that it will be able to pack in up to 8 GB of RAM.

Do keep in mind that we did use the words ‘up to’. While we all know that even the Snapdragon 820 is expected to stick to the 8 cores and not move to the deca-core territory (MediaTek is already there), 8 GB of RAM again sounds outrageous.

Operating systems like iOS and Windows 10 are working well with just 2 GB and 3 GB of RAM, which is all thanks to optimisation. In the Android camp however, things are a bit different with mid-range devices sporting 3 GB to 4 GB of RAM giving the latter a complex. Google’s Android operating system does not seem shy either and this is more so, thanks to manufacturers trying to go big on numbers and consumers fueling the whole initiative.

So yes, there is a good possibility that your next Android flagship with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 830 may sport anything between 6 GB to 8 GB of RAM!
