Qualcomm could introduce the Snapdragon 660 in an upcoming Xiaomi device

According to a new leak, the new Qualcomm SoC could make its way to Xiaomi's upcoming flagship budget smartphone.

According to the rumoured specifications that were leaked earlier, Qualcomm will be launching a new mid-range chipset, the Snapdragon 660, which could have similar specifications as the Snapdragon 820.

This means two Kryo cores, four Cortex A73 CPUs clocked at 2.2GHZ and four Cortex A53 CPUs clocked at 1.9GHz. It will also be made on a similar 14nm process along with an Adreno 512 GPU, X10 baseband, two channel LPDDR4X-1866 memory and UFS 2.1 flash memory. The leaked specifications sheet also said that it will be used by Chinese vendors Oppo and Vivo and that it will arrive in the second quarter of 2017.

However, according to a new leak, the new SoC could make its way to Xiaomi's upcoming flagship budget smartphone. The information was leaked on Gizmochina, which says that Xiaomi is likely to launch a new Redmi smartphone, possibly the Redmi Pro 2, loaded with the new chipset. This new chip is said to have MSM8976 Plus as its model number. This is somewhat similar to the Snapdragon 652 (MSM8976) and Snapdragon 653 (MSM8976 Pro).

The Redmi Pro was launched last year in China and was limited to its hometown. The Redmi Pro 2 was recently leaked, which suggested that the phone would skip the dual-camera for a single lens with improved specifications. It will feature a new sensor, the 12MP Sony IMX 362. This is a 1/2.55” sensor with large 1.4µm pixels and Dual Pixel autofocus.

Other features include a larger 4,500mAh battery, which is up from the earlier 4,050 mAh unit, two storage and RAM variants including one with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage which could cost CNY 1,800 (around Rs 18,000). The other one would be a 4GB RAM and 64GB storage which would be the base version priced at CNY 1,600 (around Rs 16,000).
