Paytm updates iOS app after admitting a bug; removes app from App Store

The company detailed that it discovered a bug in the app where some Paytm app users were not able to pay using the e-wallet.

Update: The updated Paytm app is gradually rolling out to all the iOS users around. The company has further made it a point that people who have not updated the app will receive in-app notification or popup along with an SMS notifying them about the "critical update".

Paytm is rolling out a new update for its iOS users for improved functionality. The company detailed that it discovered a bug in the app where some Paytm app users were not able to pay using the e-wallet. The failure of the app to pay caused the app to hang and soon the system would log users out of their apps. This would further prevent them from accessing their account.

The company has sent the new update to Apple for approval and is waiting for the approval to take place. It has further gone ahead and removed Paytm from the App Store because the company does not want to increase the number of users who are facing the problem. Paytm maintained that the number of users facing this problem are tiny but it had to be pulled. The app will be back with a new and updated build which fixes the problem. The company did not go into any technical details of the bug on why and what caused the bug.

Paytm assured users that the customer data and their money was safe and the bug was nothing major and that the company was working hard to fix such bugs. This comes days after the company started setting up awareness camps across schools, colleges, village panchayats and trade bodies to help users stay informed about the benefits of digital payments. The company is also embroiled in a legal battle with PayPal over trademark issues.
