OnePlus has now rolled out OxygenOS Open Beta 17 its OnePlus 3 smartphone and Open Beta 8 for the OnePlus 3T. The updates albeit in Beta bring in some new additions while improving on some existing software features.
The new additions would include Ambient display 2.0, lift up display (to prevent accidental wakes) and a direct sharing functionality for 'Shot on OnePlus'. Add to this list an all new OnePlus Font that will be available only for the English, Chinese and Japanese languages.
Coming to the UI improvements there's a updated and improved Gallery (v1.7), Recorder (v1.6), Weather app (v1.7) and a File Manager (v1.7).
Optimisations for the new ROMs come in the form of enhanced launch speeds when it comes to third-party apps. There's also better management of foreground and background processes that should use the 6GB of RAM in a more optimised manner.
Other changes, that most will not really notice include a new Setup wizard (updated to match Android 7.1), a refined contact import process that now supports dual numbers and email address and the all important (but always ignored), Android Security Patch level to 1 May 2017.
As always, if you are running an Open Beta ROM on your OnePlus, you will have already received the above information as an OTA notification. Simply tap to update.
Once you have switched to a Beta ROM, you will stop receiving updates for the stable ROMs that arrive for normal users. If you think of switching down the line, you will have to wipe your device completely to switch back to standard, stable, public ROMs, where you could lose your data.
