NPCI's BHIM app for iOS jumps to number one spot on App Store, two days after launch

It took just two days for the BHIM app to reach to the number one position on the App Store and even dethroned the all time favourite, WhatsApp along the way in India.

The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) recently launched its Bharat Interface for Money (Bhim) app for Android smartphones. Just two days ago the NPCI launched its iOS app on the Apple App Store. Oddly, it took just two days for the Bhim app to reach to the number one position and even dethroned the all time favourite, WhatsApp along the way in India.

Fire up the App Store on your iPhone, and you won't be surprised to see the NPCI's Bhim app at rank one, under the Free apps tab. It's a space that's often taken up by messaging giant WhatsApp along with others like YouTube (well because it does not come built in anymore). What is impressive is that it took just two days to get there. Over the weekend we even noticed how the app showed up in the trending searches section as well, so the rise to the top was imminent.

So far the Bhim app for iOS has seen about 505 ratings (for the current version) and counting (in the India store). From what we can read, these are initial teething issues where some users seemed to have come across problems during the verification process.

The Bhim app for iOS platform is said to  be equipped with all the updated features available on Bhim’s Android version 1.2.

The Bhim app was launched in December last year and was only available for Android users. During the launch, it was said that it would be available for iOS users on 10 January. While there were delays, the app has finally arrived on the Apple App store for download.
