Netflix has unveiled plans for a new Netflix original TV series. The series will be based on Vikram Chandra’s award winning novel, Sacred Games . The novel is based on India’s underworld and revolves around the cat and mouse game between a cop and a gangster.
The intrigues, conspiracies and intricacies of Mumbai’s underworld caught Netflix’ attention. The series will be set in Mumbai and shot there as well. Netflix is working with local studio, Phantom Films, to bring the series to life.

“We are delighted to partner with creative powerhouse, Phantom Films , to bring Vikram Chandra’s epic novel to life with the best Indian and global film talent available today,” said Erik Barmack, vice president of international original series at Netflix. “Sacred Games reinforces our commitment to bring the authenticity of local stories to Netflix members across 190 countries worldwide.”
The series will begin shooting the series soon, but there’s no word on a release date yet. Netflix does promise that once the series is ready, it will be made available to their global audience.
Netflix claims to have a subscriber base of 81 million users, 16 million of them outside the US. They offer streaming services in around 190 countries.
Phantom films is a well-known studio that’s worked on the likes of Queen, Lootera and Bombay Velvet. It was founded by Vikas Bahl, Anurag Kashyap, Vikramaditya Motwane and Madhu Mantena.
