The MapmyIndia Rover Bike is a GPS tracking device that has to be installed on the bike by a qualified mechanic or one of the partner MapmyIndia outlets across the country. The device has its own SIM card, that needs a separate data connection. The data connection has to be subscribed to, on a yearly basis. The device itself can be purchased for Rs 3,990.
The GPS can be tracked through a mobile app, available on iOS, Android and Windows Mobile. Users can check the on/off status of the bike and its location at any time using the smartphone app. There is a history view, which can be animated, which shows previous activity of the bike. The mobile application displays additional information such as timing and duration of trips, average speed during the drive, start and end locations, and an animated history over the course of the day.
The device can also be used to store electronic versions of important documents. The details of the insurance, PUC certificate and service timings can be entered into the mobile application, and the app will remind users when the policies or certificates need to be updated, or the bike needs to be serviced. There is theft protection for the bike in the form of a geo-fencing alert. If the bike leaves a particular area, it can be configured to send an alert over an SMS or an e-mail.
There is an engine off and on alert as well, and a speed limit alert. The alerts can be sent to pre-defined phone numbers via an SMS or to an email address. The SMS alerts need to be purchased from the store, but the emails are sent out for free. The GPS tracker can be used by parents to make sure their children are not involved in rash driving. The live tracker allows for real time monitoring of the movements of the motorbike. The device is designed to be compact and easy to install.
MapmyIndia has a number of India oriented products, including offline maps for iOS known as MapmyIndia Navimaps and a GPS tracker for cars known as MapmyIndia DriveMate. The DriveMate connects to the on board diagnostics port of a four wheeler, and offers alerts when certain conditions are met, and real time information on various parameters of the vehicle.
