With the onset of the new year, leading OEMs have begun preparing for the launch of a fresh batch of smartphones across the varied price range.
LG is also gearing up to introduce its penta-camera smartphone, the V40 ThinQ in India. While the Korean tech company is set to bring its 2018 flagship in the Indian market, LG seems to have yet another unannounced premium device veiled in its smartphone inventory.
The device in question is said to be LG G8 that recently appeared in leaked '5K' renders and 360-degree video. The renders and the video posted by 91Mobiles in collaboration with OnLeaks shows off the alleged LG G8’s design language.
The CAD-based renders reveal a device that looks nearly identical to the LG G7 ThinQ. Unlike Samsung seemingly working on hole-punch displays, LG’s supposed G8 smartphone appears to retain 2018’s trendy notch-style display. The only “subtle changes” seen on the smartphone is the dual camera setup up front, the alignment of the rear cameras (now placed horizontally) and slightly thin chin bezel.
While LG opted for triple rear camera setup on the V40 ThinQ, surprisingly, the phone in the leaked video is seen sporting dual camera sensors at the back. The report cites that the Laser Autofocus found on the LG G7+ ThinQ seems to be missing on the G8. At the base, the phone features single speaker, USB-C port and single speaker grill. The phone likely features a glass sandwich design.
The device supposedly codenamed ‘Alpha’ has a circular shaped rear-mounted fingerprint sensor. The volume keys and Google Assistant button underneath them are seen placed on the left side, while the power button and SIM tray are on the right side.
As for the other aspects, the report suggests that the LG G8 might have a 6.1-inch display with 19.5:9 aspect ratio. The dimensions are said to 152 x 72 x 8.4 mm. The phone is tipped to have ‘sound on technology’ speakers. Further, it is speculated that the supposed LG G8 will come with Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 SoC. While CAD-based renders often turn out to be true, we would still recommend to take it with a grain of salt. Reports suggest that LG might unveil the LG G8 at MWC (Mobile World Congress) 2019 next month.
As mentioned, LG’s V series premium phone, the V40 ThinQ is set to mark its debut in India. The phone is already listed on Amazon India. The phone will be up for sale on 20 January, the same day when Amazon’s Great India sale kicks-in. Prime members will get 12-hours early access to the sale which means they will be able to buy the handset on 19 January.
