Benchmarks from what appears to be Google’s upcoming Pixel XL flagship have appeared online. The benchmark listing comes from GeekBench and indicates a device, codenamed Marlin, running a quad-core Qualcomm chip clocked at 1.59GHz. This is paired with 4GB of RAM.

The scores of 1,659 and 3,951 in single-core and multi-core tests respectively are well behind the Samsung Galaxy S7’s 1,806 and 5,213. The Samsung Galaxy S7 is currently the most powerful Android device . Apple’s iPhone 7 manages 3,450 and 5,630 in the same test, however.

In fact, the purported Pixel XL’s scores fall slightly behind those of the OnePlus 3.

WCCFTech suggests that the phone’s chipset is a second revision of the Snapdragon 820 or an 821. It’s widely expected that the Snapdragon 821 will power Google’s Pixel phones, however.

Interestingly, the tested devices were also running Android 7.1, an as yet unreleased version of Android Nougat.

Google’s Pixel lineup is said to be a departure from Google’s Nexus program, offering flagship devices with a custom Google OS. The OS will be based on Android, but will not be stock Android. The Pixel XL is rumoured to be priced at $650 (around Rs 45,000).

Both devices and a 4K-ready Chromecast are expected at an event on 4 October this year.
