The PSLV-C37 took off from the First Launch Pad at Sriharikota High Altitude Range in Andhra Pradesh, and made history with the launch of 104 satellites in a single mission . The main payload was the Earth Observation Satellite CartoSat-2D. Isro had two other nanosatellites on board, INS-1A and INS-1B. The other 101 satellites on board were foreign , and were allowed to piggyback on the mission through the agency of the commercial arm of Isro, Antrix.

The entire launch operation went off without a hitch. The launch was tracked by stations in India, Mauritius and Antarctica. The actual flight path of the mission was exactly the predicted flight path. There was a blank out of communication with the launch vehicle as it flew over the southern part of the planet, and the link was handed over from the Mauritius-II ground station to the Troll ground station in Antartica. After a link was re-established with Troll ground station, it was verified that all the 104 satellites on board have been deployed correctly into orbit. It was a proud moment for Isro and India, and the congratulations started pouring in.
