Google Photos updated: Offers easy editing options for images

Google has now introduced an update which offers easier editing options, though it is only available for desktop. In addition, the company also updated its Android app and has now been slightly redesigned. Google Photos for iOS will soon be updated with the same features.

Google Photos for Android is now receiving an update that is focused around improving the in-app navigation and also gives users a refreshed design. Some of the changes include a bottom bar for jumping between Assistant, Photos, and the new Albums View. Albums is the new name for Collections, and it includes a scrolling carousel that will give users access to their shared albums, people, places, things, animations, collages, movies and device folders.

The company stated in a blog post that, “You take a lot of photos. Editing all of them can be time consuming. To speed things up, you can now navigate between photos while staying in editing mode.” Google has also introduced a new aspect ratio selector that lets users get an exact crop. One can choose from Original, Square, 16:9 and 4:3 respectively.

Recently, Google started rolling out a new photo sharing feature to compete with Apple’s iCloud photo sharing. However, Google brings this support to Android, web as well as iOS. It is a great feature that will allow to pool your photos and videos from friends and family who keep forgetting to share them via email or social networks. This means you can make albums collaborative and people who receive the shared album can join in and add their own photos and videos. People can also get notifications when new pictures are added and save photos/videos from a shared album to the Google Photos library.
