Google I/O 2017: Assistant could make its way to the iPhone this year

Google is being speculated to further expand the range of its voice assistant and bring it to iOS devices, primarily the iPhone.

The Google Assistant was announced at last year's I/O conference and was said to be exclusive to the Pixel smartphones. It eventually made its way to the Google Home speaker, and to more Android Nougat based smartphones.

This year, it is being speculated that Google will further expand the range of its voice assistant and bring it to iOS devices, primarily the iPhone. According to a person familiar to the matter, Google will make the announcement on the first day of I/O which is today. It will be made available via the Apple App Store and will hit the US first followed by other countries.

The iPhone version is expected to work just like the Android version and will be able to take commands via voice. While it won't come pre-installed on the iPhone, it is said that it will integrate with other Google apps on the iPhone. This means that one can ask the assistant to play a video and the YouTube app will be triggered to open the desired video.

Google will also update the integration of Assistant in to its Photos app which will now be able to create physical coffee table photo books. Photos last year got the AI integration so the service could automatically create albums by combining relevant and related images. With the new update, users will now be able to order physical, printed books of pictures from their Photos app which would be shipped to their homes. Google could offer multiple types of book materials for the service, one of which is priced at $10 (Rs 650 approx).

Apart from that, Google might also announce plans to integrate Assistant into GE home appliances like refrigerators, dishwashers, ovens, washers and dryers. Which means Google Assistant will finally make its way to IoT devices.
