Google Doodle Celebrates Jules Verne; Gets Nautical

The Google Doodle got nautical today. In celebration of noted science fiction writer, Jules Verne, the doodle takes you, literally, twenty thousand leagues under the sea. The sealife drawn is very literal to Verne’s creatures. There are even men walking about on the sea bed in space suits (Captain Nemo). The word ‘Google’ functions as a submarine window (Nemo’s submarine, the Nautilus) and what’s really cool, is on the right side of the logo there is a red handle which controls your view from out your window. So if you move the handle up, your view changes to show you what’s above your current eye level, to the point where you even get to the surface of the ocean (as noted by the breaking waves).

Clicking on Google, as usual, takes you to the search results page of Jules Verne. The author has written such classics as “Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea”, “Journey to the Center of the Earth” and “Around the World in Eighty Days”. He was born on the 8th of February in 1828 in Brittany, France. He arguably defined science fiction writing, and although he faced a lot of flack from his publisher for being “too scientific”, his work’s made it through every child’s reading list today.
