Fitbit Alta HR announced with a heart rate sensor and a Rs 14,999 price tag

The new Fitbit Alta HR comes with a built in heart rate sensor and offers the same features as the original Alta.

Fitbit has announced a new health tracker which is basically a small update for the Alta. The new Fitbit Alta HR comes with a built-in heart rate sensor and offers the same features as the original Alta.

The company claims it to be the world's slimmest fitness tracking band and to be honest, it does look discrete and chic. While the Fitbit Charge, Blaze and Surge already had heart-rate monitors, the Alta family now also gets the feature. Apart from having a heart rate sensor, there is also the tap-sensitive OLED display and a company claimed five-day battery life, similar to the Alta. Similarly, it can track track your steps, sleep patterns and of course shows notifications from your smartphone when connected via Bluetooth.

Speaking of sleep, Fitbit has updated the way it calculates sleep patterns and now shows light, deep and REM sleep stages under Sleep Insights on the Fitbit app.

“Alta HR and these powerful new sleep features demonstrate our continued focus on evolving our innovative technology to deliver deeper, more actionable insights to help our users improve their health. The miniaturisation of our PurePulse heart rate technology opens up exciting opportunities for future generations of devices and new form factors. Our advances in sleep will provide millions of users around the globe accessibility to invaluable insights that previously could be obtained only through expensive lab tests," said James Park, co-founder and CEO of Fitbit.

The Alta HR is available for pre-order today on for Rs 14,999 from 15 to 31 March. It will be available exclusively on from 1 to 15 April and from 16 April onwards across major India retailers including Reliance Digital, Croma, Helios, Jumbo and Vijay Sales retail stores.

Fitbit will also sell the special edition Alta HR in Gun Metal and Rose Gold with a Rs 16,999 price tag. As for the bands, the Classic fitness bands are priced at 2,999, Luxe Leather bands at Rs 5,999 and Luxe Metal Bracelet at Rs 9,999.
