Filing a lawsuit against Qualcomm was the "last resort", says Apple CEO Tim Cook

Apple CEO, Tim cook revealed that filing a lawsuit against the industry leader in System-on-Chip designing and manufacturing, Qualcomm. He further adds that Apple could not see any other way to proceed before filing the lawsuit. Cook reiterated Apple’s stand in the case saying that Qualcomm would be collecting money for no reason on the components and technologies that the chip-maker had no role in developing.

He also gave an example about the TouchID sensors, displays and mobile cameras saying that they don’t want to pay more to Qualcomm for things they never did. Cook further went on to equate the situation with bullying pointing out that the company was being arm twisted into paying more from what the actual amount should have been as reported by The Verge . Apple believes that the current licensing model by Qualcomm is flawed and that it would not pass the legal system forcing the company to rework the licensing fees.

This comes right after the point where Apple sued Qualcomm for $1 billion dollars making it one of the few unexpected things in 2017. But this should come as no surprise because this is not the first time that Apple is suing any major partner or company. Previously, the company sued Samsung for copying the iPhone design. Cook concludes by adding that he hates litigation and would want to explore alternative course of action if possible but at the time there is no better option for the company other than taking the legal road.
