A new app that Facebook is believed to be currently testing allows celebrities to monitor buzz about themselves on the platform and reply to them right away. The app, called the VIP app, is being currently tested with a small group of well-known people, affirms AllThingsD.

If and when this app takes a more solid shape, it will prove to be an interesting tool in the hands of celebrities, since it will help them connect and engage with their fans better. In fact, the move is part of the social networking giant’s attempts to get celebrities to use its platform more actively and share more content while there. Celebrities themselves are taking to platforms like Facebook and Twitter with gusto, to connect with their audiences on a more personal level.

A Facebook spokesperson told the website that, “We are currently testing some mobile features designed to help public figures interact with their fans. We are testing these features with a small group of partners and will share more details should we roll it out more widely.”

Those active on Twitter would know that the popular microblogging site already allows famous people on its network to connect with their fans in a more direct fashion, while also being able to stay in the loop of all conversations on them.

All said, the app is still in its testing phase and hence there is no saying if it will ever see the light of the day.

Even as you’re reading this, Facebook is reportedly also testing a brand new navigation design for its Android and iOS applications. The new navigation bar at the bottom of the screen seems to be appearing to users who are a part of the social network’s beta testing program on Android and a handful of users on iOS.
