Facebook Messenger is expected to get a big update today with a new emoji designs that focus on diversity. The new emoji pack will include support for skin tone selection and will also focus on gender as well placing women on the chart in more roles than ever before.

Facebook said that it is the first platform to include a female police, officer, runner pedestrian, surfer and swimmer with many more to come. With the new update, users will now be able to access the new diversified Facebook emoji no matter which smartphone they use. Currently the design and emoji differ between smartphone brands and software type (iOS, Android).

In short, Facebook is trying to get things streamlined across its platform so that users will now have a consistent emoji experience in comparison to the current state of things where emoji are often misunderstood. Oddly, the social network is adding another layer of emoji to what already appears to be a mess across platforms.

Last Mother’s Day, Facebook introduced a themed reactions that let users react with a flowers emoji to a post instead of the usual like, love and other standards. The themed reaction emoji were temporary and were not available after the day passed. But the reactions will keep showing up on the older posts where ever they were added.
