We mentioned how digital had gone mainstream in our Trends for 2011 feature. Everything in the entertainment genre – from music, video to gaming has been heavily dependent upon the digital type of consumption, as opposed to the more traditional physical media. As reported by Gizmodo , digital music sales have now trumped the sales of physical music. According to a report by Nielsen and Billboard , the percentage of sales is 50.3 percent to digital out of the complete sales of music.
When was the last time you bought one of those?
On a comparative basis, physical music sales is on a downfall decreasing at a rate of 5 percent in 2011, whilst digital media is escalating at a steady rate of 8.4 percent.
