Apple issued its first major update to iOS 6 on Monday, and even though it isn't that great for users in India, there are enough new bells and whistles as well as bug fixes that should make users want to download it as quickly as possible.
The update -- which comes after five beta test updates following the September launch of iOS 6 -- is applicable for iPhone 3GS and later models, iPad 2 and later, and the iPod touch 4th generation and later.
"iOS 6 is the world's most advanced mobile operating system, and with nearly 300 million iPhone, iPad and iPod touch devices on iOS 6 in just five months, it may be the most popular new version of an OS in history," said Philip Schiller, Apple's senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing, in a release. "iOS 6.1 brings LTE support to more markets around the world, so even more users can enjoy ultrafast Safari browsing, FaceTime video calls, iCloud services, and iTunes and App Store downloads."
Apple has also added a way to reset your Advertising Identifier, which acts as a control room for informing advertisers about your web activity.
Apple also revealed just how popular some of its features are: iOS users have uploaded over nine billion photos to their Photo Streams, pinged out more that 450 billion iMessages over WiFi connections and received more than four trillion notifications.
This update contains improvements and bug fixes, including:
- LTE support for more carriers (complete list of supported carriers at www.apple.com/iphone/LTE/)
- Purchase movie tickets through Fandango with Siri (USA only)
- iTunes Match subscribers can now download individual songs from iCloud
- New button to reset the Advertising Identifier
