Ever since the government announced the demonetisation of old notes, my frequency of using digital wallets and debit/credit cards has increased, probably the same for many. The past couple of months I also noticed that I had to share expenses with friends especially when we had to order food and me being me, I would always lose track of pending payments.
While it’s good to be a bit carefree about money when its comes to your friends, its a way better habit to keep a track of your money. Of course it isn’t easy to keep following up, especially someone like me who finds it awkward.
While I already have my phone swamped up with apps, I installed an expenses sharing app called Splitwise.
The app let’s you add your friends or even create a group where you can note down and share your expenses. It lets you keep a tab on who owes you money and similarly other friends can do the same. Once you get your money back, you can mark it as ‘Settled up’. You can even add a bill in case you have friends who need proof. The bill feature is quite good as it can be shared between a group or a single person.
Considering the UI, its neat and simple. It has three tabs- Friends, Groups and Activity. The first tab shows a list of all your friends that you want to share expenses with. Along with that it shows the amount that you owe or he/she owes you. You can tap on a friend to see all bills settled with that friend or add a new bill.

In the Group tab you can create a common place for sharing expenses with multiple people, for instance a group that includes your roommates. This way you can share monthly expenses like house rent, bills and so on.
The last tab shows you all the activities consolidated in one place so you know what all expenses you made.
I think this app is great especially in our age when digital money is being adopted at a faster rate than it ever was. It is also a better way of reminding someone that they need to pay up without being impolite.
The app is available for both Android and iOS platforms and is free of cost.
