Android 7.1.2 update is breaking the fingerprint scanners for Google Pixel and Nexus users

Google has just finished the roll out of the latest version of Android Nougat, Android Nougat 7.1.2. However, this new update seems to have a glaring bug that is causing fingerprint scanners to not function at all. This problem is not limited to one particular handset and instead seems to be widespread for both Nexus users and Pixel users as reported by Android Police . The affected Pixel and Nexus users have taken to Google product forums detailing the problem that they are facing after installing Android Nougat 7.1.2 OTA (Over-the-air) update.

The product forums hint that the problem has hit Pixel, Pixel XL, Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P. One thing to note here is that the fingerprint sensors are not letting users unlock their devices but the swipe down gesture to access notifications using the sensor is still working without any problem. The users have tried to delete fingerprints from the smartphone database to start from scratch but that also has not worked out.

This comes just days after Nexus 6P users of Google’s Android Beta program started receiving the final Android 7.1.2 update after being stuck on Android Nougat 7.1.2 beta while regular users received their stable update. This comes after the possible hints that Google maybe getting sued for the early shutdowns and bootloop issues that have plagued Nexus 6P.
