With some exceptions, all of Tom Clancy’s branded titles are at the pinnacle of their genre. Hardcore, tactical shooters are a rare find today and Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon franchise is the hardest, grittiest and most hardcore of the lot. To be fair, the more recent titles under the Tom Clancy brand have started leaning towards the cinematic than the gritty.
Ghost Recon: Wildlands is the latest entrant in the franchise and in a departure from its predecessors, it will be an open-world tactical shooter. The game will have a single-player mode as well as a 4-player co-op mode, which should be a lot of fun.
The game is set in a future Bolivia, where you and your ghosts take on El Sueño and the Santa Blanca cartel. Your mission Mission Impossible soundtrack> should you choose to accept it, is to free the Bolivian people from the clutches of the cartel and the ravages of a corrupt government.
We don’t know much more than that at present, but we do have this lovely trailer to look at:
Considering the recent trend with trailers, especially when it came to Ubisoft’s The Division , take the visuals with a pinch of salt. We’ll reserve judgement on the visuals till we actually see the game on our devices.
The game will be available in 3 editions—Deluxe, Gold and Calavera Collector’s editions.
The Deluxe Edition will offer an assortment of in-game items, an in-game map of Bolivia (a physical copy) and the original soundtrack. The Gold Edition will add a Season Pass and some more digital content.
The Gold and Deluxe editions are standard fare as far as gaming is concerned, but The Calavera Collector’s Case aims to be something special. It includes all the content from the lesser editions of the game and also throws in a custom headset, a fully functional replica of the audio headsets worn by the Ghosts in-game. You also get a Santa Blanca Cartel Skull, a Bolivian carrying pouch and 3 postcards, allegedly from Bolivia.
If you pre-order the game, you’ll also get a bonus mission. Again, knowing Ubisoft , you might want to wait till the innumerable launch day patches come pouring out first.
