Watch: Amol Muzumdar, Rohan Gavaskar share Sachin Tendulkar anecdotes on his 44th birthday

Indian legend Sachin Tendulkar turned 44 on Monday, with India in particular and the cricketing fraternity in general wishing the 'Master Blaster' on the special day.

While wishes kept pouring in throughout the day on the social media, former cricketers Rohan Gavaskar and Amol Muzumdar decided to pay a little tribute of their own in the latest episode of 'Free Hit' brought to you by Firstpost in association with Exhale Sports.

In this special episode dedicated to the man who redefined carried the hopes of a billion Indians each time he stepped out to bat, Muzumdar narrates an interesting incident from his school days at the Shardashram Vidya Mandir — the same school that Tendulkar and Vinod Kambli had attended back in their day.

Muzumdar, a Mumbai cricket icon himself, narrated the incident of them playing in muddy conditions during the monsoon months. While batting for as little as 10 minutes was something of a herculean task for many, Tendulkar managed to bat on for 30 minutes, displaying signs of the special talent that he possessed. Just when it seemed like it would be impossible to dismiss him, Tendulkar managed to nick one off Kambli's bowling, and Muzumdar, who was keeping the stumps, managed to take a clean catch.

It was only when Ramakant Achrekar, Tendulkar's childhood coach, turned up and understood the situation that he commanded Tendulkar to let go of the bat at one, and quietly go and bowl.

"He didn't let go of the bat that day, but I tell you what, he went on to rule international cricketer for 24 years," said Muzumdar in conclusion.
