Iga Swiatek has refused to reveal any details on the speculations of her working with Rafael Nadal after the former world number one ended her partnership with her previous coach Wim Fissette.
Swiatek, currently ranked number three in the WTA rankings, recently ended her stint with Fissette. The announcement came on the back of the Pole’s shock Miami Open campaign where she made an exit in the opening-round, her first first-round exit at a tournament since 2021.
After dominating women’s tennis for a while, Swiatek has struggled to achieve the heights that were anticipated for her. After breaking up with her previous coach, reports emerged that she was training with Nadal. Reports also suggested that Nadal had advised Swiatek to take the services of Francisco Roig, who spent years working with the legend, and coached Emma Raducanu.
Swiatek talks about partnership with Nadal
Talking to Sport.pl, the Pole revealed that she has been in contact with Nadal but refused to give any details of their partnership.
“You know, Rafa is my idol and basically the only person I watched play tennis as a child. He was also kind enough to talk to me several times during his career and give me tips. He’s the person I can turn to if I need help or have a problem. Having someone so experienced – the best, the GOAT, in fact – is obviously a fantastic opportunity, and I’ll take advantage of it if I can.
“Rafa is very open. He’s a great guy. Just having his number and being able to contact him is a huge honour. But honestly, whether he helped me or not, I’d like to keep it between us, because he’s part of this story. I wouldn’t want to put him in an awkward position,” Swiatek told the publication.
Swiatek also opened up about her split with Fissette. She yet again chose to keep the details privy to her but said that it was an informed decision on her part and not an emotional one.
“This is between us. I don’t want to go into details. It’s definitely not something someone like me decides to do after one failure. I wouldn’t make such a decision lightly,” she said.
“I felt it was simply time for a change. Yes, it wasn’t a decision made in Miami – it was a longer process during which I carefully considered everything.”
Swiatek’s next tournament is scheduled to be the Stuttgart Open, a WTA 500 clay-court event beginning on April 13, 2026.
