More and more medals for India at Paralympics! Dharambir and Pranav Soorma clinch gold and silver respectively in men’s club throw F51 competition. Dharambir threw a best of 34.92m, which is now an Asian record, whereas Pranav attempted 34.59m. Disappointment for Amit Kumar, however, as he finishes last in the 10-player field with a score of 23.96m.

He defeats Colombia’s Hector Julio Ramirez 6-2 in the quarter-final clash, and is now one win away from confirming a second consecutive Paralympic medal!

The third set ends in a 27-all tie, before Harvinder seals victory by finishing marginally ahead of the Colombian (26-25). Harvinder had begun with a 9 in Set 4, which was followed by 7, which put Ramirez ahead.

The Indian, however, regained his composure in time to hit 10 in his third arrow, with his opponent hitting an 8, and sealed his victory in the process.

Sakina, who currently lies at the seventh spot, will have one more shot at lifting 90kg in her third attempt, but that won’t get her anywhere close to the medal positions as the top four have lifted weights in excess of 100 kg.

Paralympics 2024 LIVE, Day 7: India will aim to stretch their best-ever medal tally even further on 4 September at the Paris 2024 Paralympics Games after making a new record on Tuesday. With five medals on 3 September, India touched the 20-medal mark, one more than their previous best of 19 from the Tokyo 2020 Games. The top medal hopes for India on Wednesday are para table tennis player Bhavina Patel and para-archer Harvinder Singh, who won medals at the Tokyo Games.

Silver — Ajeet Singh in Men’s Javelin Throw F46 category

Silver — Sharad Kumar in Men’s High Jump T63 category

Bronze — Mariyappan Thangavelu in Men’s High Jump T63 category

India will also have three medal matches in para-athletics on Wednesday

Sachin Khilari, Mohd Yasser, and Rohit Kumar will be in action in the men’s shot put F46 final, Amisha Rawat will take part in the women’s shot put F46 final, while Pranav Soorma, Dharambir, and Amit Saroha are scheduled for men’s club throw F51 final. Also in action will be Simran Sharma in women’s 100m T12 round 1.

Rudransh Khandelwal and Nihal Singh will take part in the P4-Mixed 50m Pistol SH1 qualification round with the final also scheduled for the same day.
