Manchester City has completed the signing of France defender Eliaquim Mangala from FC Porto for a fee reported to be about 32 million pounds ($54 million).
The 23-year-old Mangala is City’s sixth signing of the off-season and will provide competition for Vincent Kompany and Martin Demichelis at center back.
City manager Manuel Pellegrini says Mangala “is already a fine player but in my opinion, he has all of the mental, physical, technical and tactical attributes to become one of Europe’s very best defenders.”
City, which has been linked with the Frenchman since January, didn’t disclose the length of Mangala’s contract or the transfer fee.
Mangala was in France’s squad at the World Cup but didn’t play a game.
