It’s official now. Sourav Ganguly will no longer be the captain of Pune Warriors in the Indian Premier League and will only serve as the team’s mentor, putting an end to intense speculation over the struggling batsman’s fate following a string of poor results.
“What has really worked against him was that he didn’t work on his fitness,” said Sanjay Manjrekar.
“One mistake he made was that he didn’t realise that his batting was not really up there to make a difference but still took important position in the batting order,” Manjrekar told CNN-IBN.
Former Mumbai captain Shishir Hattangadi, when asked whether IPL prolongs the life of cricketers, said, “It’s carrot that dangles really low.”
“But time doesn’t wait for anybody nor do corporates. IPL is their asset and they decide whom to keep and whom to let go,” Hattangadi said.
