Amit Mishra with two boundaries off the last two deliveries gets Delhi Daredevils home, but the real hero was Shreyas Iyer who made the chase possible for Delhi with his brilliant knock of 96 runs. Gujarat once again fail to defend a total. The result means little to either teams as both of them are out of the running for the play-offs, but this is a big win for Delhi Daredevils

96 is Shreyas Iyer’s highest score in T20 cricket. His previous highest was 86 which he made for Mumbai against Vidarbha at Mumbai in 2016.

The Lions have been struggling to take wickets and they seemed to have found a solution — just get run outs. There have been three now as the Daredevils implode in the pursuit of a tricky but not insurmountable total. Dhaval Kulkarni bowls a good over that could have been even better had Shreyas Iyer not hit him for a boundary off the last ball. After the last over, it was important to keep the Delhi batsman under pressure and not give away too many runs and Kulkarni did a decent job.

196 will be a very stiff target for the Daredevils to reach, and it is even more daunting if Pant can’t bat because of his injured finger. This should be a Lions win from here, but the Daredevils have a powerful batting line up and they can take apart this Lions bowling attack. 

Aaron Finch says that if the Lions bowl well they can defend this. Bowling well is not something the Lions have done very often so far this season.

Twelve runs off the final over and credit must go to Faulkner and Jadeja for their ruinning between the wickets. Three twos in that over shows you need not go big at the death every time. Gujarat get a lucky boundary off the last ball as Samson misses it completely to let it go for four byes. With Pant possibly injured, this is a big ask for Delhi Daredevils. But Gujarat Lions have never won when they have batted first, so Delhi have hope

This has been absolutely superb from Aaron Finch and he is giving his team a real chance of actually setting a competitive score and winning a game batting first. 

Delhi have looked short of penetration with the ball, even with the extra pace of Pat Cummins. The Lions are set for setting over 200 for the second time this season against Delhi, but last time they lost with 15 balls to spare. Even with 200 plus on the board they will have to have a better effort from their bowlers to win this.

Brathwaite continues and Finch smashes him for a boundary on the very first ball. Finch plays it smartly and takes a single off the next ball. Karthik tries to go for a big one but is deceived by Brathwaite’s slower one, before he gives back the strike to Finch. The Australian just survives a scare as his pull shot drops just ahead of the mid-wicket fielder. The West Indian ends well giving away just eight runs off an over that started with a boundary

Mohammed Shami returns to the attack and bowls very good first five balls giving away just five runs, but a lebgth ball is put away by Karthik straight over the bowler’s head to bag six runs. Gujarat have been picking up one boundary every over and have reached a very good score at this stage without taking much risk

Umpire makes a wrong call for a wide as the ball clearly takes a it of Karthik’s thigh pad, but Anderson does well to finish the over well after early blows from the batters

This stand between Karthik and Finch has been very good so far, but the two of them will need to bat for the majority of the remaining overs if the Lions are to finally win a match batting first. 

On the six occasions they have batted first this year they have lost, and their bowling is very much their weaker suit. They won’t feel comfortable of defending anything under 180.

Carlos Brathwaite introduced into the attack. And stars well conceding just three runs off the first three balls. But Finch flicks him for a brilliant boundary piercing the gap between square leg and mid-wicket. Finch then gives the strike to Dinesh Karthik who plays out the last ball

Aaron Finch has scored 72.81% of his runs in boundaries this season of IPL, which is the third highest among all the batsmen who have scored at least 200 runs before today. He has hit 19 fours and 15 sixes in this IPL.

With Smith and Raina gone inside the Powerplay, and no Brendon McCullum in the side, there is a good chance that Lions stuff up their batting once again. 
The Daredevils have lost players too, Chris Morris has left to join the South African squad ahead of their tour of England, but they have much more bench strength than the Lions and should be favourites on paper.

With three of the four playoff spots already sewn up there is not much riding on this game as both of these teams are eliminated. The lackadaisical running and throwing that saw Dwayne Smith run out sums that up.

Hello and welcome to the Live blog of the 50th IPL match between Delhi Daredevils and Gujarat Lions. After Sunrisers Hyderabad defeated Mumbai Indians on Monday night, Zaheer Khan’s men were ousted of the tournament. Gujarat, too, will fail to qualify for the PlayOffs even if they win all their matches. With both teams having nothing to lose, this dead rubber promises to be an exciting one even though some of Delhi’s overseas players have left for international assignments.
