Manchester United climbed into the top four of the Premier League after a thrilling 4-2 win over Brighton & Hove Albion at Old Trafford on Saturday. Ruben Amorim praised his players for their bravery and said the atmosphere in the stadium gave him a “really strange” feeling.

After the match, Amorim said: “I feel good. I think we played well but we suffered in the end, a little bit, our fault in the way we conceded the first goal… it was a good game. We know how to suffer. If we suffer together, it’s so much easier to win games.” This is the first time under Amorim’s coaching that United have won three PL games in a row.

Amorim also highlighted the special moment at Old Trafford. “I think, after the third goal, the noise of the stadium was not normal. It was like a different moment. It was the first time that I felt that sound within the environment. So it was a very good moment for me. So, of course, we are focusing on the game but there are some things in this club, in this stadium, that you feel. And that was really strange. The sound of the stadium was incredible,” he said.

“Even when we arrived to play this game, I felt that the environment with everything, with everybody here, the players, was different. It was not like being overwhelmed, it was excitement to come here to play in front of our fans and that was a different feeling. The confidence is normal because it comes with wins,” he added.

Manchester United took the lead in the 23rd minute through Matheus Cunha, before Casemiro scored in the 34th minute with a deflected strike. Brighton tried to fight back, but Bryan Mbeumo sealed the win with a brace, including a goal just past the hour mark that sent the Old Trafford crowd into celebration.

Danny Welbeck scored a free-kick for Brighton, and Charalampos Kostoulas added a late header, but United held on to pick up all three points. The win was United’s third in a row following victories over Sunderland and Liverpool, giving the team hope as they aim to stay in the top four.

Amorim said the focus now is on the next game: “Enjoy today but, tomorrow, we need to prepare for Nottingham Forest because, if you look at the table, two weeks can change everything. One week can change everything. We need to enjoy the week but work really hard to prepare for the next one. Today, we finished the game with a goal that gave us a different feeling. So, when you have the right spirit, everything is going in your favour. We need to hold onto that, work really hard and take that to the next game.”
